Schedule clarification

The schedule page has been updated to clarify session times – including ice flood times.

Additional notes:

At the discretion of the coaches, the ice may be flooded between sessions. They will do their best to split the flood time evenly between the two sessions.
Skaters on the second hour should be ready to go on the ice before the scheduled end of the previous session. This gives the coaches the opportunity to involve them in activities at the end of the first session, and ensures sure we don’t loose any time between sessions.

Reminder – help with mats

Just a reminder to all parents that help is required to put the mats on the ice for the first session. Please get to the rink in time to get your skater dressed before the zamboni finishes. When the zamboni clears, we will start moving mats!

Help is also required to move the mats back to storage after the second session. Please do this before helping your skater get packed up.

National Sports Day – free trial skate and open house

St. Lawrence Rapids could twin with Simla, India’s largest ice skating club

While in Shimla India, John Ambrose (middle) spoke with the chairman of the Simla Skating Club (right) and the treasurer (left) about a twinning between the St. Lawrence Speed Skating Club and Simla. Ambrose gave them a St. Lawrence Speed Skating Rapids crested jacket.

Registration this Wednesday and next Thursday

Registration/Skate Fitting for new & returning members:

Wednesday, August 15th & Thursday, August 23rd
6-8pm at the Brockville Memorial Centre.

**Club skates are distributed on a “first come, first serve” basis.**
First practice sessions of the season for all groups takes place on Sunday, September 9th.

2012/2013 Registration

Mark your calendar!
SLSSC Registration for the 2012/13 Speed skating season will take place on Wednesday, August 15th & Thursday, August 23rd at the Brockville Memorial Centre, 6-8pm. Watch the club website…registration details and forms will be posted the first week of August.

We once again have the opportunity to secure morning ice on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30am starting in October until the end of March. This is extra ice that is not included in our regular program or membership fee. We need a minimum of 10 committed skaters to make this session viable. If you are interested in sharing the ice on Tuesday mornings next season, please send John Ambrose an email no later than next Friday, July 27th at trevelyn@ripnet.com.

Year End Party Pictures

The year end party for the club was held this past weekend. After the awards were handed out, some serious pot-luck eating occurred, followed by either the AGM or – for the luck few – a massive session of SurvivorTag/MegaSoccer.

Sue Ellis Camp Early Registration

Sue Ellis has invited SLSSC skaters to the advanced registration for the July summer camps. Registration officially opens on Tuesday, May 8th. Only 30 skaters per group will be accepted.
