This past weekend, the St. Lawrence Speed Skating Club handed out their yearly awards. Here are some of the pictures from the event.

Provincial B Championship – Results

Congrats to the 3 skaters who traveled to Newmarket last weekend to compete in the Provincial B Championship. Here’s how they did:

Nolan Roney – 19th (Boys – 11 yrs old)

Andrew Chartrand – 3rd (Mixed Gender – 13 & 14 yrs old)

Connor Taughner – 3rd (Open Men)

Congrats to both Andrew and Connor for taking home medals.

Summer Camps

The Cambridge and Toronto Speed Skating Clubs are pleased to announce that registration for their summer camp system is now open.

The camps will be hosted by both clubs as follows :
2 weeks in Toronto : July 14-18 and July 21-25. These weeks will have a Technical focus.
1 week in Cambridge : August 14-18. This week will have a Conditioning and Racing Tactics focus.
Lead Coach: Steve Robillard (all 3 weeks). Special guest coach: Valérie Maltais (Toronto only confirmed at this time).

Provincial C Championship – Official Results

Congrats to the skaters who competed in the Provincial C Championships this past weekend. Here are the official results.

Cameron Mackay – 10th (9 year old boys)
Paige Besner – 8th (8 year old girls)
Annella Roney – 11th (8 year old girls)
Andy Giroux – 2nd (7 year old boys)
Celia Giroux – 8th (6&7 year old girls)

Note: Celia skated with 6 and 7 year old girls due to lack of skaters in these 2 groups. She finished 2nd overall in the 6 year old girls category

Provincial C Championship – Update

This past weekend, 5 skaters made the trip to Milton to participate in the Provincial C Championship. Overall, it was a great weekend of skating, with each skater getting new PB’s in several distances. In the end, 2 of our skaters finished on the podium.

Congratulations to Andy Giroux for winning Silver in the 7 year old boys category.

Congratulations to Celia Giroux for winning Silver in the 6 year old girls category.

ISU World Speed Skating Championship

The ISU World Speed Skating Championships were held this past weekend in Montreal. Several SLSSC members made the trip to enjoy the excellent racing. While there, Coach Jen ran into an old competitor, namely Kristina Groves, who was announcing for CBC!!!

Kristina was nice enough to pose for pictures with Jen, Nolan and Paige, as well, sign their programs. Coach Jen’s brother also managed to get the programs signed by the complete Canadian Speed Skating Team!

Congratulations to Charles Hamelin for winning Bronze in the 500m.

Tuesday Ice Time change

Upcoming Provincial Championship

Reminder, the following Provincial Champions will be coming up in the next few weeks. Make sure to get your entries to Heather by the specified date.

Provincial ‘C’ (Girls and Boys age 6-10) – March 22nd-23rd, Milton. Entry form due by March 12th. Please let your coaches know if you plan on attending this meet.

Provincial ‘B’ & Masters (Girls and Boys 11 and up that do not skate in the Provincial Series, including Masters) – March 29th-30th, Clarington. Entry form due by March 19th.
