Skate the Lake

Skate the Lake is fast approaching and if the cold weather we are currently enjoying (?) is any indication we should have some great ice.
Not only is this the 10th addition of Skate the Lake but we are also hosting the North American Marathon Speed Skating Championship, and we certainly hope you are coming.
We have been having some technical difficulties with our website, which should be resolved this week.
In the meantime I’m attaching the following files to this e-mail, that will get you started on the registrations process;
-message from our president
-fee structure information
-registration form for the 5K to 50K
-list of accommodations in the area.
We would appreciate it if skaters would preregister and pay in advance to help eliminate the rush the day(s) of the event.
The fee structure sheet attached can be used to calculate your total fees, anyone that wants can pay by e-mailing an interac e-Transfer to
registration@portlandoutdoors.com, we are also hoping to have Paypal activated by this week on our website.

Montreal Masters meet on March 23

The Montreal Speed Skating club is planning to organize a small competition in Montreal for Masters short track skaters. It will NOT be an official competition, even if there will be officials and timekeepers. The idea is to gather the most possible skaters together to have fun. It is for all kind of skaters (some have competed in the past, and some have never competed). They organized it for the first time last year and it was a wonderful success, simply because of the friendship feeling. Indeed, like last year, there will be two different types of race: one will be for the competitive people, and the other for people who skates for fun (who don’t want to compete because they don’t feel strong enough). First type will be on a standard basis (qualification and finals for different distances). For the second type, every skaters will make a two laps qualification, just to be able to make groups of approximately the same speed for the remainder of the day.
It will be held at the Maurice Richard arena (short track national team training center, the best short track of eastern Canada) on Marsh 23rd from 13:00 to 18:00.

If you are interested in attending, please let Heather or John know, as soon as possible, so that they can inform the Montreal club.

Canadian Olympic Short Track Trials

Sixteen (16) male and 16 female skaters compete in each of the 500 m, 1000 m and 1500 m races, racing each distance three times at the short track selections in Montreal.” Speed Skating Canada
